Redefining Range: 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive

When we spoke with BMW executives earlier this year at an event featuring their Neue Klasse iX3, they weren’t shy about their pride in the new platform technology and electric architecture, claiming it would feature “groundbreaking innovations that will shape the entire model range of the brand.” This includes new battery technology that improves energy density by 20%, an 800v charging system that can add 230 miles of range in just 10 minutes on a 400 kW DC fast charger, and four “superbrains” that elevate performance, handling, entertainment, and automation.

What they wouldn’t discuss was both price and range. Now that they’ve announced both, we’re more excited than ever to get behind the wheel of the newest electric version of what has become the best-selling nameplate in the company’s line-up.

Shocking Price And Power

One of the things we’re not used to seeing when new cars are introduced is a drop in price, especially for EVs. BMW says the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive will debut in September with a base price of $61,500 + $1,350 for destination and handling. That’s $5,000 less than a comparably equipped X3 M50 gas model. Now you can, of course, add options that will push that price well past $80,000. But the base vehicle is not a stripped down model.

The other game changer is the range. The iX3 50 has been EPA rated to go 434 miles on a single charge. That’s further than a Tesla Model Y long-range, Porsche Macan EV, and the new Cadillac Optiq. In addition, the charging architecture allows you to go from 10%-80% in just 21 minutes. Making it truly a road trip ready EV.

Upgraded Information and Entertainment

While we won’t know how the iX3 will drive until we get behind the wheel, we do know that BMW has packed its entertainment systems with more options and upgraded its BMW Personal Assistant technology with Amazon Alexa+.

This enables intuitive and intelligent interaction between passengers and the vehicle in a natural dialogue. For the first time, passengers can ask multiple questions in a single sentence, covering both the vehicle’s features and general knowledge topics.

In addition, the includes technology that can turn the vehicle into your mobile office with Zoom integrated into the SUV’s central display. If you’re more interested in relaxing while the vehicle is stationary, you can choose from more than 85 entertainment apps including live video and streaming options like Disney+ and YouTube Music.

The BMW iX3 50 xDrive will be available in September. You can configure and pre-order one today at bmwusa.com
